The London Schlager Party initiative was born during a chance meeting of Swedish born schlager fan Sara Fredriksson and Barry Viniker of leading Eurovision Song Contest website, esctoday.com, during a live showing of the first 2007 Melodifestivalen semi final at London’s Swedish pub, the Harcourt Arms.

Deciding that the time had come to provide a proper event where schlager lovers and Eurovision Song Contest fans could enjoy their music in the centre of London , a one-off Schlager Party was set up, and promptly sold out.

It was quickly decided that DJ Dave Simmons, a master Eurovision Song Contest DJ with a love of all things schlager, would be the ideal man to dj the event. Living in London and regularly featuring at the VIP party decks at during the Eurovision fortnight, DJ Dave was the perfect choice!

The event was a huge success with everyone attending demanding more parties in the future. Within days, the second Schlager Party was announced, and it was decided that the event could become a quarterly calendar fixture. Sure enough, the ‘Summer Schlager Party’ was another sell out and demand was growing, the third event, the ‘Winter Warmer Schlager Party’ saw ticket sales go through the roof as soon as they went on sale.

The London Schlager Party has already reached cult status with a core group of schlager crazy fans who dress up, entertain the crowd with real dance routines and help make the event special for everyone. A London Schlager Party Appreciation Society [Link: LSPAS page] has been set up on facebook to keep party goers informed about upcoming events, post pictures and videos from parties and for people to arrange meeting before the next party.

As the year draws to a close, the event is gathering momentum and there are six Schlager Parties planned for 2008, each with a slightly different theme. Check out our upcoming events for more details.
